Phil’s History:

A ‘work in progress’ family history website starting from an Archer family of South Oxford, who were freemen, brewers, haulage contractors, and first ‘Archer & Co’ then ‘Archer Cowley & Co’ furniture removers in the 19th and 20th Centuries, inter alia, to whom are linked by marriage the Penfolds and Wells of Southwark and Surrey, the Reeds of Devon, the Gilders of Oxford and Hinckley, the Morgans of Petworth, Sussex, the Garners of Middleton, Lancs and many others. There are connections via Phil and the present generation (born 1930s/40s) with a patent law firm known as "UD&L" with motor-racing and Scottish antecedents.

This tree was perpared by Raymond Pickstone who can be seen one above, born 1926, married to Kathleen Whitfield, two children: Robert and Mary, born 1961 and 1959 respectively. The tree also shows the branch of the Garner family in which Betsy Pickstone married Harry Garner and had children: Annie (elder child by 5 years) and Sam (born 1910), who are shown (correctly) as having, respectively, four and three children (not named in this tree). In the same generation as Betsy Pickstone, this tree also shows Betsy’s brother Mark Pickstone (1868 - 1933) who married Harry Garner’s sister Alice Garner (1869 - 1947), and whose children included Samuel Harrison Pickstone, Raymond’s father, Arthur (who died in infancy), and Charles who had no children, whereby Raymond’s children became the only Pickstones emerging from this branch of the family.
