Phil and Anthony Collieu in the ‘wilds’ of the ponds around Cuckoo Lane, Headington, circa 1946/7:

Next

Left to right: Phil  and Anthony. We lived opposite each other in Sandfield Road. He was a year or two older than me. The son of Brasenose don, Eric Collieu, and Anthony went to to The Dragon School, Shrewsbury School, Christ Church College, Oxford and then taught, I believe,  all his life at Bradfield School. Well, well. We were bent on catching tadpoles, here, in the pond(s) that  were in the wild countryside still existing beside Cuckoo Lane, Headington, where soon after was built Headley Way and all its post-war housing. I suppose the Collieus had lived at No.30 (?) Sandfield Road for a long time, but I don’t know. We had arrived at No.17 in 1946, moving from 386 London Road, Headington. Anthony and I lost touch somewhat when he went off to Shrewsbury at the age of about 13.
