Fred (FGB) Archer with Eileen and Pam Archer in the mid-1930s:

So here are: my dad (FGBA: Frederick George Blake Archer) and his two nieces (his brother Arthur’s first-born children), Eileen (on the left) and Pamela. They are at Somerville, 130 Banbury Road, and the two little girls both look about 7 or 8 years old, so the year must be about ‘middle of the 1930s’ ie not long before FGBA married, in 1936, and had two boys of his own, in the following five years. So these two girls are enjoying ‘the Somerville experience’, as indeed I was to do likewise, when I was about their age here, in 1948 - twelve or thirteen years later. It looks as if they are sorting out windfall apples, of which there were always a great many at Somerville.
