Eileen and Pam Archer in the mid-1930s:

A nice character-study of two little girls, pretending to read some serious document, and, from the look on the face of Pam (on the right), it seems quite likely that her elder sister Eileen has just told her to stop messing about. This is very probably taken at Somerville, but I do not recognise the background. Well, perhaps I do. Perhaps that is the Banbury Road gatepost in the background, and this shot is taken in the Somerville driveway, or near to it. So this is (on the left) Eileen at age eight or so, and Pam a few years younger. Both going to end up spending time in the U.S., though Pam came back, married an Englishman and lived her life here all the rest of her life. So in February 2016, if this is 1935 or so, it’s about 80 years ago. So much change! (Feb 2016, NZ) And, in 1936, the big news topic was the abdication crisis. Edward VIII and Mrs Simpson. Sex and politics and religion! Amazing stuff. And it all mattered so much. There was a war just over the horizon. But it mattered-not to the two little girls, I’m sure.
