James Archer’s Grandpont Meadows sale-particulars: (4)

Not to mention a Martin (brand) side-delivery rake, a Blackstone hay tedder, a Cambridge press, a Fenemore hay loader, six four-ton ‘Yorkshire’ lorries by Belerby of Huddersfield, three builders’ tip carts, four four-wheel ‘London’ vans, a three-ton Carrimore trailer, and two eight-ton “Foden” steam wagons in excellent order. All the stuff (and more) of a well-equipped farm, that had been set up as a somewhat self-sufficient operation providing tractive effort for the transport of furniture and other heavy goods by road in the decades from 1857 to 1925. The date and time of the sale (or anyway, of one such sale) was Thursday 1st October 1925 at Grandpont Meadow, one mile from the city-centre of Oxford, at 12.30 pm precisely.
