The Guardian on 21.3.2017: “Happy countries are the ones that have a healthy balance of prosperity, as conventionally measured, and social capital, meaning a high degree of trust in a society, low inequality and confidence in government”.

Top 5 countries: 1) Norway (7.54); 2) Denmark; 3) Iceland; 4) Switzerland; 5) Finland; followed by The Netherlands; Canada; New Zealand, Australia; and Sweden;

Bottom countries: 151) Rwanda (3.47);  152) Syria (3.46); 153) Tanzania (3.35); Burundi (2.91); 155) Central African Republic (2.69);

The report (its fifth) by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network at the U.N. found that income was a relatively small factor in happiness and that health and ‘social ambiance’ played important roles. In Australia, the UK,and the US for example, diagnosed mental illness emerges as more important than income, employment or physical illness.
