1901 census 7 Tackley Place, Oxford: Alfred George Archer & family:

Previous

So here is my paternal great-grandfather Alfred George Archer in 1901 in his family home at No.7 Tackley Place, (off Walton Street/KIngston Road/parallel to Woodstock Road, Oxford). (added 16.5.18)

One of the more significant facts arising from this census is that Alfred George's son William (shown as "Wm.G.R.Archer"), only just back in England after 6 years working for his maternal uncle Albert Edwin Reed at his paper factory at Raamsdonksveer, Holland, is that he (William) puts himself down (or somebody does) as 'Schoolteacher', which is very strange, bearing in mind his known interests and activities then and later. But perhaps he thought of teaching Dutch (in which he was perhaps very proficient after 6 years in Holland, and made the most of it  whenever, later in life, he could. But evidently, as of March/April 1901, he had no thoughts (or anyway they were not dominant) of becoming what he later became i.e. involved in furniture (whether making and selling it, as he did for the next 18 years, or removing and storing it, which is what he then did for the rest of his life).
