The Wilkinson family and Dawson Parnell - the origin of the “P” of ANPG’s names:

So this family tree shows Jonathan Wilkinson (ANPG’s maternal great-grandfather) and his first marriage, to Bridget McKay and their three children, including Ellen Wilkinson (ANPG’s grandmother), and her marriage to Martin Johnson resulting in their child Minnie Johnson, who was ANPG’s mother. Also shown is that after Martin Johnson’s death or disappearance, Ellen Wilkinson lived with Dawson Parnell, who was in-service as a butler-or-the-like and they lived in West Ella near Hull and ran a tea-room there, of which we have a photograph. According to ANPG, Dawson Parnell helped fund the training of Minnie Johnson in the catering field, whereby, during WW1 she was able to be involved with ‘Forces Catering’ in France (according to ANPG she ‘organised’ the forces catering, but she would say that anyway). In recognition of this helpful generosity to his step-daughter, Minnie Johnson named her own daughter (ANPG) Audrey Nancy Parnell (Philpotts). A nice tribute. Probably no connection whatever with the ‘Irish-home-rule-Parnell’ of historical fame.
