Here is the text of the Guardian’s obituary on 17th January 1991. The ‘Gray’s Elegy’ illustrations do indeed seem to be a high point in her wood-engraving career. What a wonderfully simple life she led. Total dedication to her art, apparently. And her cousin Gwen Archer, my mother, though involved in the complexities of family life, was similarly dedicated to her ‘art’, which in Gwen’s case was music.
