(Added 22.6.2016): Here are the two John Archers (both brewers of St Aldates, Oxford), the second John’s son Alfred George, Inland Revenue officer, Alfred’s son William George Reed (WGRA), House Furnisher and Transport Contractor, his son Frederick George Blake, Managing Director of the family removals firm, Archer Cowley & Co, and his son Philip, who did not follow his father into that business (nor did his cousins), and hence the firm was sold in 1969. Thus the ‘family business’ changed from brewing in the early-to- mid 19th century, via coal-merchants (one of the John Archers) in the middle-to-latter part of that century,……(to be completed).
