So, here are the ‘Archers of Oxford’ whose family I joined in 1941. Only some of them are shown here: from John Archer (aka "John Archer (senior minus one) or "John Archer (S-1)”), who died in 1836 and was, I believe, a brewer.

In the 18th and 19th centuries, these Archers were brewers - meaning that that was the main or best-known family source of income. That includes the three ‘John Archers’ seen here, at least one of whom was also a ‘victualler’, which I take to mean a supplier of victuals ie food or provisions.

As can be seen, my paternal grandfather, William George Reed Archer (aka WGRA), was the sixth child of his parents,  Alfred George Archer (aka AGA) and Olive Emma Reed.Archer), AGA being the eleventh (of 13) children of John and Frances Archer, John being the last of the John Archers to be a brewer.
